Governance of the PIML Society

The Physics-Informed Machine Learning Society is being developed as an interdisciplinary professional community for research, education and responsible collaboration. Its governance framework is intended to provide transparent decision-making, clearly defined responsibilities, academic independence and accountable stewardship of Society activities.

PIMLS is presently in its founding phase. Permanent office-bearers and a Governing Council have not yet been constituted. These appointments are expected to be considered through the appropriate Society process after the First Annual Meeting on 08–09 July 2027.

Office-bearers would provide strategic, technical, educational, administrative and financial leadership within authority granted by the approved bylaws.

Institutional oversight

Governing Council

A multidisciplinary Governing Council is proposed to guide Society strategy, approve major programmes, review finances and policies, and ensure that activities advance the stated mission.

The founding blueprint recommends a council of approximately 9–15 members, subject to formal consultation and adoption.

Scientific guidance

Scientific Advisory Board

An international and interdisciplinary advisory body is proposed to offer independent guidance on research directions, educational priorities, annual-meeting themes and responsible scientific practice.

Advisory participation would not replace the decision-making responsibilities of the Governing Council.

Member participation

General Assembly

The General Assembly is intended to provide a forum in which eligible members receive institutional updates and participate in Society business according to the approved constitution and bylaws.

The inaugural assembly is proposed in connection with the July 2027 Annual Meeting.

Committees would convert the Society's mission into carefully managed programmes and report through the approved governance structure.

Awards & Recognition

Future recognition programmes governed by published eligibility and selection procedures.

Budgeting, record keeping, internal controls and accountable use of Society resources.

Documents and Policies to Be Established

A credible professional society requires more than a list of positions. PIMLS intends to develop governing documents that define authority, accountability and member participation before presenting policies as formally adopted.

Constitution and Bylaws

Purpose, membership, governing bodies, elections or appointments, terms, meetings, voting, amendments and dissolution.

Code of Ethics

Professional conduct, research integrity, responsible AI practice, non-discrimination and mechanisms for addressing concerns.

Conflict-of-Interest Policy

Disclosure, recusal and management of personal, professional, editorial and financial interests.

Financial and Reporting Policy

Authorisation, record keeping, budgeting, review and appropriate reporting to members.

Committee and Chapter Rules

Formation, scope, leadership, reporting, use of the Society name and continuation requirements.

Scholarly Communication

Principles for responsible research reporting, reproducibility, ethical authorship and constructive academic exchange.
